Lancashire hosts Division Two Liverpool for a third-straight year in the National Cup on Sunday, tip off is 2 p.m. at Myerscough College.
The Spinners have been victorious in all three previous occasions in the competition when matched against Liverpool, including last season when they won 102-94 in the second round. Sunday’s meeting marks the latest round the two have faced one another, as the previous came in the second round.
Lancashire (0-5) is a perfect 4-0 all-time against Liverpool, winning by at least double digits in three-out-of-four games. The closest result came on Oct. 10, 2014 when the Spinners won 92-91 whilst the largest margin of victory – a difference of 43 points – came on Oct. 29, 2011, as Steven Gayle scored 42 points.
Former Liverpool players Jack Hudson and David Ulph rank first and fourth in scoring respectively for Lancashire. Hudson further leads the Spinners in both assists and steals and is third in rebounding. Ulph, who missed the game at Bradford has averaged 7.3 points and 6.8 rebounds in four games this season.
“The attention has to be on us getting a win – I’m going to do everything I can to make sure that happens,” said Hudson on facing his boyhood club. “Though on a personal note it will be great to get a chance to see some of the people associated with Liverpool.”
Liverpool (2-3) advanced to the third round of the National Cup behind 17 points from Andrew Gayle in a convincing 103-57 win over Sefton Stars. But it also enters the National Cup following a loss to Thames Valley Cavaliers on Saturday.
