Ken Masser, General Manager of Basketball England’s Lancashire Spinners, and Neal Hopkins, Head Coach and Programme Director at Myerscough College, on Friday announced the promotion of Ayo Nuwe and David Walsh to the first-team for 2016-17.
“The Spinners first and foremost principal is giving young players the opportunity to compete at the highest level of the sport,” said Masser. “Neal has done a fantastic job ensuring our players are put in positions to succeed on and off the court. I have high expectations for both Ayo and David and know they’ll rise to the challenge.”
Ayo Nuwe, 18, spent the 2015-16 season playing for Myerscough in both the Elite Academy Basketball League (EABL) and National League Division 3. The Lagos, Nigerian native averaged eight points and eight rebounds per game in the EABL earning Player of the Week honours in Week 11. He chipped in 14.3 points and eight boards in Division 3. Prior to attending the Preston-based College, the 6-foot-4 small forward was a part of the Manchester Magic youth setup.
David Walsh, 19, was a member of the Myerscough’s Division 3 squad. The 6-foot-1 shooting guard from Oldham contributed 18.8 points in his first year. Prior to moving to Myerscough, he played for the Oldham Titans where he began his training at the age of nine.
