Mark Rangeley has been a stalwart with the Lancashire Spinners for two-and-a-half years and he’s not going anywhere soon.

“It’s home,” he simply said following the announcement of his re-signing. “I’ve felt so welcomed and appreciated – I have a connection with the management staff and also the fans.”

The 25-year-old joined the then Rossendale Raptors – now Lancashire Spinners – in January 2014 from the Huddersfield Heat.

Since his arrival, Rangeley has set a career high of 43 points in a game versus Birmingham Mets, won a second Patrons Cup and reached Basketball England’s Division One where he last played with Leeds Carnegie.

“Mark is rewarded for his commitment to the Spinners with my utmost trust in him,” said Spinners General Manager Ken Masser. “As one of the most senior players on a young team, he gives us tremendous upside at both ends of the floor and is prepared to help ensure this team takes the next step.”

Rangeley started in 31 of 36 games for the Spinners in 2015-16, the team’s first season in Division One, averaging 10.8 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. He was just one of three players to convert at least 50 three-pointers and his 68 assists ranked fifth on the team.

“Coach Neal [Hopkins] puts his players in positions to succeed,” he said. “It’s important we buy into his system and work together because the talent we’ll have will give us a chance to improve on last season.”

“Every year he’s accepted whatever role is required and without fail he’s responded and continued to impress me in that regard,” said Masser. “He’s a guy Neal [Hopkins] has shown trust in in any situation, and he has the ability to take over a game.”

Rangeley set a season-high 24 points in a crucial four-point December win over the Bradford Dragons ending a three game losing streak where he showcased his range going 5-for-12 beyond the arc.

“Ken and Neal have always told me they believe in me and my ability and that’s made me continually feel comfortable,” Rangeley said. “It’s important to have their trust and confidence.”
