BALDWIN’S 21 POINTS CARRY BURY SPINNERS BY WIRE
The Bury U16 Boys fought off a determined Cheshire Wire Green en route to a 78-59 win.
Luc Baldwin finished with 21 points to lead the Spinners, who had 11 different scorers. Rob Stansfield and Mark McCoy added 10 points each.
Cheshire, boasting a 4-1 record over their last five games, used a press to disrupt Bury, which led to turnovers at one end and points at the other.
But Bury overturned a small 21-18 deficit, as Baldwin took control to beat the Cheshire pressure.
“He carried the team,” Spinners coach Lewis Scott said of his guard.
Wire was then limited to just four points in the second quarter allowing Bury to build a 36-25 advantage by halftime and the Spinners calmly led the rest of the way.
Scorers: Luc Balwin 21, Rob Stansfield 10, Mark McCoy 10, Callum Brady 9, Dan Johnson 7, Danny Marsh 7, Csaba Grill 6, Joshua McLaughlin 4, Joe Heyes 2, Oscar Whipp 1, Vince Byrne-Willner 1.
BURY SPINNERS U14 BOYS DEFEAT BY MAGIC
A short-handed Bury Spinners U14 Boys fell 60-36 against Manchester Magic.
Guerschom Taiwo had 18 points whilst Boston Brady added seven on a day where the Spinners only had nine players available.
The duo, alongside great defensive work from Besar Broqi, helped the Spinners to a 25-23 halftime lead.
But Taiwo landed in quick foul trouble to start the second half allowing Manchester to go on an 8-0 run. Bury narrowed the gap to just three before the Magic converted successive baskets to lead by seven and the deficit grew in the fourth quarter.
Scorers: Guerschom Taiwo 18; Boston Brady 7, Besar Broqi 4, Bradley Hughes 4, Myles Morgan 2, Alan Davies 1.
