Kyle Carey’s summer trajectory continued upwards as he was named to the Great Britain under-20 squad to play at the European Championships in Greece beginning July 15.
Carey, who committed to the University of Northern Colorado (NCAA), was selected to the 12-man roster by head coach Andreas Kapoulas on Saturday after the release of Fraser Malcolm and Theo Oghide.
He will join eight players already plying their trade at American universities, two others that played in England last season and one who spent the year in Slovenia with LTH Castings Skofja Loka.
“It’s a great achievement to make the squad as it was one of my goals coming into the season,” said Carey. “This experience will definitely prepare me for Division I basketball in America because I’ll be playing alongside teammates who have had that experience already.”
Draw into Group C, Great Britain will face Albania in the opening game before playing Ireland, Kosovo, Netherlands and Greece.
“My expectations of myself after just to play hard and do what’s needed on the floor,” Carey continued. “I believe I have the ability to do a lot of things on both ends of the floor so I’m ready to just give it my all.”
Great Britain will play friendlies against Portugal and host Greece ahead of the competition.
