It was a weekend to forget for Lancashire, who suffered successive home defeats at Castle Leisure Centre for the first time. But the Spinners are still in contention to make the National Basketball League Division One playoffs.
The Spinners are hopeful of a late-season charge beginning on Saturday against the Bradford Dragons.
The Spinners (20-10, 11-8 NBL1) scored a consolation 3-pointer in a narrow 81-80 loss to Reading on Saturday, but didn’t have an opportunity at a last shot, before falling to Hemel the following day.
Steven Gayle, the team’s leading scoring in NBL1 play with 14.7 points per game, scored 23 in back-to-back contests.
Kyle Carey, who averaged 20 points in the month of February, was held without a point for the first time since Nov. 21 in just 13 minutes.
Bradford is just 2-3 over its last five games but is coming off a 93-85 win against Tees Valley. But the Dragons (11-20, 6-15) haven’t won consecutive league games since Nov. 29.
The Spinners won the previous two meetings this season whilst the two teams have combined for 395 total points.
Mark Rangeley scored a season-high 24 points and hit five 3-pointers en route to a 100-96 victory on Dec. 5, which ended a three-game losing streak.
Lancashire tumbled to eighth place in the standings on Sunday but still maintains an eight point lead over Leicester, who are in ninth. Bradford are in eleventh. The Spinners are 8-0 (11-0 overall) versus teams currently below them.
Nick Moore, who scored 24 points in the Dec. 5 loss, has 10 games of at least 20 points in league play.
