Bury Spinners U16s 65, Liverpool Black 55

WALTON, Liverpool — Luc Baldwin scored 20 points and the Bury U16 Boys kept its calm in a hostile atmosphere, powering to a 65-55 win over Liverpool Black at Archbishop Beck Sports College on Saturday.

Callum Brady added 18 points for the Spinners, whose playoff aspirations remained on track.

Bury’s two leading scorers set the tone for the pivotal matchup both connecting on baskets early, as the climbed to an 18-14 lead.

Despite their successes, Liverpool hung close and clipped its deficit to 30-29 at halftime. Baldwin and Brady asserted the Spinners’ dominance, which was capped off by a buzzer-beating 3-pointer giving them a seven-point lead.

Liverpool made a late push and tied the game with three minutes left before an 8-0 run gave Bury the lead for good. Baldwin ensured victory hitting 4-of-5 shots at the free throw line.

Bradford Dragons 68, Bury Spinners U14s 65

The Bury U14 Boys were narrowly edged 68-65 by their Bradford Dragon counterparts on Saturday.

Boston Brady led the Spinners with 14 points in the loss. Daanish Sulaman and Guerschom Taiwo added 10 apiece.

Bradford grabbed an early 8-1 lead before Bury fought back to end the opening quarter with a three-point advantage. Bury extended its advantage to 33-26, but had five players also pick up at least three fouls, which proved to be the undoing.

The Dragons took full advantage outscoring the Spinners, whose defensive intensity dropped, 25-9 in the third quarter.

Bury was able to mount a comeback, drawing within a point with two minutes remaining, but five players fouled out and compromised the Spinners’ rhythm. Bradford, however, managed to keep its nose in front.

Scorers: Boston Brady 14, Daanish Sulaman 10, Guerschom Taiwo 10, Myles Morgan 8, Charles Okafor 8, Besar Broqi 6, Leon Ramsden 5, Alan Davies 2, Bradley Hughes 2.

Stockport Falcons II 41, Lancashire Spinners U16s (Rossendale) 39

J. Earnshaw scored 10 points and W. Sherratt added eight, but the Lancashire Spinners U16s (Rossendale) fell 41-39 to Stockport II on Saturday.

The Spinners held the lead late after making a third quarter comeback, but were overhauled in a low scoring final period.
