PRESTON, Lancs. — Lancashire closes the home portion of the 2016-17 season against Leicester on Saturday. Game time is set for 5:45 p.m. at Myerscough College with LiveStats available from tipoff.
David Walsh ensured the Spinners’ National League 1 status when he hit the game-winning layup as time expired to claim an 83-82 come-from-behind victory over Essex last weekend. Connor Murtagh contributed his third 20-point game of the year and had a season-high of 10 rebounds.
The Spinners, who won just their third game when trailing at halftime, improved to 8-21 overall and 7-18 in league play. Lancashire is 5-10 at home this season.
Lancashire is averaging 76.5 points per game on 40.4 percent shooting from the floor, including 31.6 percent from 3-point land. Opponents are scoring 87.2 points per game on 45 percent shooting.
Mark Rangeley leads the team in scoring at 17.1 points per game on 41.8 percent shooting. Rangeley ranks second in rebounding and assists with 5.2 and 2.2 per game, respectively. Jack Hudson is second in scoring at 14.5 points per game, but first in assists (5.0) and steals (2.0) per game.
Murtagh is scoring 13.0 points per game on 42.5 percent shooting from the field, including 35.4 percent from distance. David Ulph is adding 11.5 points per game on a team-best 53.0 percent shooting. Ulph leads the team in rebounding with 9.8 per game.
Leicester, which closes its season on Saturday, enters with a 12-17 record overall. The Warriors sit in 10th place in the league standings with a 10-15 mark and are coming off a 93-63 win over London.
Led by Rodney Sanders’ 17.2 points per game, Leicester is scoring 75.6 points per contest on 39.5 percent shooting whilst allowing 77.8 points to opponents. Leome Francis is adding 14.5 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.
Rangeley, Hudson and Zion Tordoff scored 20 points each, but 29 points from Sanders propelled the Warriors to a 96-83 win the last time the two teams met at Braunstone Leisure Centre to start 2017.
Saturday will be the fifth meeting between the two with Lancashire holding a 3-1 edge in the head-to-head series. The Spinners swept the season series last year and also won the National Trophy game.
